Letter Writing - Template and Tips

We’ve included a template letter below to help you get started. Consider adding a personal touch about why 2SLGBTQIA+ equality is important to you. Connecting through stories helps us bridge through disinformation and misinformation. Share a bit about yourself - are you a parent, young 2SLGBTQIA+ person or proud ally? Sharing these details help build a relationship and make your letter stand out.

Dear (NAME),

My name is (INSERT) and I am a resident in (Insert area/town/riding). I am writing today as part of the Society of Queer Momentum’s Rainbow Week of Action to express my concern about the rise of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate, and hateful rhetoric and draconian policies in Canada.

I am proud to live in a country that protects peoples’ rights and freedoms, including 2SLGBTQIA+ people, but the rise in hate is jeopardizing the equality, safety and rights of queer people. (Insert more about yourself and why rainbow equality matters to you.

As your constituent, I urge you to speak out about rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate and take meaningful action to advance equality for 2SLGBTQIA+ people - by listening to 2SLGBTQIA+ people in your constituency and across Canada.

Momentum has identified calls to action for elected officials at every level of government. Please consider reviewing these calls (www.rainbowequality.ca) and exploring how you can help bring

them to life within your role.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
